About our client
This client is a UK-based carbon consultancy dedicated to assisting businesses in measuring and reducing their carbon footprints. Specialising in sectors such as travel, tourism, events, and retail, they offer tailored, data-driven strategies to help clients achieve their Net Zero goals. Their services include carbon footprint assessments, reduction planning, and carbon literacy training, all designed to integrate seamlessly into a company's operations and culture.
About the role
Our client is seeking a Data Analyst to join a small, fully remote team that measures and reduces clients’ carbon footprints. This role will be focused largely on data and systems, with approximately 90 percent of the time spent working in Google Sheets. The main purpose is to improve, maintain, and streamline internal spreadsheets, databases, and processes.
The ideal candidate enjoys logical problem-solving, working with data, and optimising systems rather than repetitive manual tasks. Over time, this role may also contribute to exploring more advanced data solutions beyond spreadsheets as the company grows.
Responsibilities
Work extensively in Google Sheets to maintain and enhance existing systems.
Clean, restructure, and standardise client-provided data so it aligns with internal templates.
Translate messy or inconsistent client spreadsheets into a format that can be used for carbon calculations.
Support team members by updating client spreadsheets ahead of new reporting cycles or annual reviews.
Gradually assist in improving formulas and logic that convert raw data into carbon footprint outputs.
Identify inefficiencies in current processes and suggest or build improvements and automations.
Reduce manual work by proposing smarter ways to collect, process, or transform data over time.
Act as an additional layer of quality control by spotting errors, inconsistencies, or illogical data.
Work with data coming from multiple sources, including spreadsheets, scraped website data, and email responses.
Collaborate with the wider team while taking ownership of assigned data and system-related tasks.
Handle ad-hoc tasks as needed to support team and project requirements.
Requirements
At least 5 years of experience, preferably in data analysis, accounting, or a similar analytical role.
Proficiency in Google Sheets is required, with Excel experience considered an advantage.
Knowledge of spreadsheet functions such as VLOOKUP (or equivalent) and other advanced formulas.
Demonstrated strength in mathematics and logical problem-solving.
High attention to detail and patience for complex, logic-heavy work involving multiple conditional rules.
Strong organisational skills; able to manage multiple projects and datasets simultaneously without losing attention to detail.
A self-motivated mindset with the ability to teach oneself new tools and techniques.
Proactive in acquiring new knowledge and continuously enhance skills, workflows, and processes.
Comfortable working independently and in a remote team environment.
